The people leading our nation

Monday, January 12, 2009

I've read this blog from the Filipino Airsfot Forums. If you have time please read her blog: http://vicissitude-decidido.blogspot.com/2008/12/world-is-fucked-up.html

I was horrified with what happened and replied to the thread with this:

wth kalokohan naman yung nanyari. Is our country that corrupt that politicians can punch an old man and a teenager and get away with it?

I hope and I really really do that justice will be served in this incident. I actually gave up with our government already. I don't trust anyone in the government anymore unless they prove it otherwise to me.

Regarding the link sir Jomarx (http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/nation/01/12/09/dela-paz-says-valley-golf-decision-unfair) has provided it seems the golf country club only cares for its prestige. If you read the whole article they keep asking questions regarding what people say about their staff and their club. That's why they're afraid of what the Mr. Dela paz's daughter might say in her blog. It only serves them right and I hope everyone will spread the word regarding their management.

Regarding the politicians involved I hope they rot in hell. We don't need people like that to lead our country. That's why nothing ever happens right in the Philippines nowadays because of people like that. I hope that their names will be forever smeared because of the incident BUT this is reality and in reality news like these are dimes a dozen and will be forgotten months afterwards. I just hope for our, and the countrys, sake that justice will be done as quickly as possible.

Let this be a lesson that everyone has to do their part in helping our country rise as a nation. If not because of those staff members being apathetic to the incident and to those self centered politians that thinks they can do whatever they want nothing will ever change and we will slowly degress into a pathetic state of a country.

Sasha

Saturday, December 13, 2008

We just bought a female persian kitten a few days ago. Isn't she cute? She's only 3 months old. My sister and I agreed to call her Sasha which suits her just fine.

Funny the day we bought her we got lost looking for the sellers house in Paranaque not to mention our car overheated in the middle of the road and that was 11 in the evening!

It was all worth it though since Sasha's a joy to be with.

Chilis at Greenbelt

I had dinner tonight with Steffy at Chilis, Greenbelt. Birthday and Christmas gift niya sa akin (hirap talaga pag birthday mo december din... Just kidding Steffy!).

I almost didn't finish my meal since we ate alot as in ALOT. We had a large plate of refillable nachos with cheese and salsa. I recon we could have eaten 2 plates if our main course didn't come so early. Kudos to the staff for the fast service. They were so accomodating with our orders.

We ate Fajitas and I tell you the beef was so scrumptous. It was cooked medium rare, just the way I liked it. I could have eaten alot if it wasn't so heavy to the stomach. I'm starting to drool right now just thinking about it.

Thanks Steffy! I had a wonderful time ^_^

Wolfgang: Black Christmas Project Concert

Thursday, December 11, 2008

I've just been to the Wolfgang reunion concert in Eastwood Libis this evening with Andrew and Eron and, pardon my choice of words, damn! That was one hell of a performance they made!

After 6 years of haitus Wolfgang once again made a new album titled "Villains" and to celebrate they had a reunion concert in Eastwood, Libis. Sadly their original drummer, Wolf Gemora, was replaced by a new member,Francis Aquino (of band Monkeyspank), since he was busy with his new band Lokomotiv.

Opening act was done by Power Spoons, a band originally from cebu, who sang the song "Bakbakan na" which I usually hear in NU 107 . Suprisingly Razorback, another filipino heavy metal band, was the second opening act, belting out 5 songs to everyones delight.

Wolfgang then appeared and sang 15 songs. Basti's voice still as perfect as it was years ago. You really have to appreciate his voice as he sang their classic as well as the new songs in their album.

The first song they sang was Sanctified which made the audience roar in excitement. They ended their set with Arise and had an encore with Halik ni Hudas. Other popular favorites are Tulisan, Mata ng Diyos, Darkness Fell and Natutulog kong Mundo.

Sadly, they didn't sang other fan favorites like No Falter, A Matter of Time and Atomica.

They sang some songs in their new album although I'm still not familiarized with it. The new songs still retain the classic heavy metal beat they had and I'm glad they didn't change their style after all this years.

I've got to say that I'm very satisfied with Wolfgangs live performance and every bit of my money was well spent from watching their concert. If ever they'll have another one I'll defenitely watch it again.

M14 SOCOM

Monday, November 17, 2008

Ok so I bought another airsoft gun. I just can't resist the look of the M14 SOCOM of Cyma. As the successor of Springfields M1 Garand the M14 is my pick as a sniper rifle from the choices in airsoft guns. The finish was absolutely beautiful for an ACM sans the real steel marking of the M14. Being an avid fan of the movie Enemy at the Gates this rifle is the closest thing I could compare to the classic look of world war 2 rifles.

I've opted to buy this ACM rifle to that of Tokyo Marui since their price range was so wide (TM costs about P18,000 while the Cyma costs around P4500 only) and since Cyma m14 is a total clone of TM the aftermarket accessories are compatible. The only problem with Cyma is that its internals are very weak. I heard that the gearbox can't support past m120 or pdi90 springs and the motor isn't that good so the rate of fire is very slow. Anyway even if I had bought the TM I'd still would have changed the internals with better parts so I rather splurge the price difference of the two brands in upgrading my M14 with a sturdy gearbox, faster motor and high tension spring among others. I'll probably upgrade this to 500 FPS more or less since I want it to be a field marksman rifle.

I've also bought a rifle mount for my m14. Now I can place my ACOG scope for better sights in the field .

The only irk about this rifle is it's twice heavier than my M4A1. I'll probably be getting good excercise lugging this thing around in the jungle.

War never changes...

At least that's what the narrators of the Fallout rpg series says.

With the advent of it's 3rd sequel Fallout has yet again been made into a masterpiece of an RPG. Having disappeared for more than a decade the Fallout series was realeased on the last week of October this year; bigger and meaner than ever.

The old company that made the Fallout series, Black Isle, sold it's rights to rpg giant, Bethesda, the makers of Elder Scroll IV: Oblivion after the former became bancrupt during the first years of the millenium. Now Besthada has modified the Fallout franchise in a mix of an rpg slash fps game, a very promising combination to say the least.

Fallout's background tells the story of an alternate timeline. A what if when world war 3 occurs and nations began firing nuclear weapons upon each other (Namely USA vs. China as Fallout 3 graphically showed along the course of the game). In this parralel universe the United States of America built huge nuclear bomb shelters called vaults where hundreds of Americans live to tide away the nuclear holocaust.

After a few decades of living the vault dwellers resurfaced only to see a wartorn country which was aptly called the wasteland. The vault dwellers came into contact with other survivors and also has to contend with mutated lifeforms such as the Super Mutants, large humanoids which are mutated by the super soldier FEV virus, the Ghouls, which are irradiated humans with degenerate flesh like those of a zombie, mutated animals like the deadly Deathclaws and mutated giant insects which includes radscorpions, rad roaches and nast looking army ants that spews fire.

New factions have also arisen like the scientific Brotherhood of Steel, a paramilitary organization dedicated in collecting technological relics of the past as well as of the future.

They symbolize the knights in shining armor in an apocalyptic dark age as they walk across the wastelands in their majestic power armor.

Another is the Enclave, which was the remnants of the United States government, whose sole purpose is to reclaim and, once again, control the whole country by any means necessary.

As I mentioned Bethesda changed the gameplay of the original Fallout and turned it into a hybrid first person shooter slash role playing game concept. The old turnbased system was swaped with V.A.T.S. (Vault-tec Assisted Targeting System) which helps the player attack the different limbs of enemy targets (and also pauses the game) by spending action points. After doing V.A.T.S. the animation then slows down, matrix style, and automatically attacks the target until all the action points are spent. Quite an intriguing style of gameplay to use if I say so myself.

Bethesda's concpept of a grisly post-apocalyptic wasteland in a three dimensional world is also a sight to see. They have shown how low the human race could ever be without order and sanity. You'll be surprised to see the raiders come to life as you enter their houses and see half eaten and rotting human carcasses strewn across the room.

The first time I saw a scene like that I almost puked and got so enraged I shot all the raiders inside the abandoned elementary school that I accidentally entered.

It seems every human being in the game got twisted in some way or another and adjusted to the horrors of the wasteland as they see fit. Can anyone say survival of the fittest? Bethesda has really captured the psychology behind the world of Fallout.

There are some rants though although minor ones at that. Fallout 3's player doesn't have his own car like in Fallout 2 although you can have your own house and design it with rather interesting choices. Not a really a bother since you can access different locations automatically (i.e. you don't have to walk anymore) when you have reached for the first time.

Monsters and enemies are limited to a few. You could probably classify them with your fingers but then again they are very challenging (well... almost) to contend with.

The same goes with the weapons and armors. The heavy weapons seems limited to a few items and my favorite gun the bozar from Fallout 2, seems to be missing.

Some locations are also hard to access. If you're the type who'll easily get lost I suggest you don't wander around Washington D.C. without checking the waypoints in your Pipboy 3000 (which at times doesn't help you at all).

Dogmeat is still there (what would Fallout be without its mascot?) and old time favorite factions the Brotherhood of Steel and the Enclave.

Surpisingly Bethesda hired good actors for the voices of the lead NPC players like Liam Neeson as the father of the protagonist and Malcom McDowell (Mr. Zimmerman of the tv series Heroes) as the voice of the new Enclave president.

Even my favorite supporting actor, Ron Perlman (of Hellboy fame among others) as the voice of the narrator of Fallout 3.

All in all Fallout 3 is a great game to play and if I have to recommend one RPG game right now this would be it. With it's large map and countless quests Fallout 3 will leave you playing hundreds of gametime hours looking at the horrors and marvels of the capital wasteland as you wander about in a world turned into hell.

And as ol Ron says: "War... war never changes..."

Lock and Load!

Thursday, October 23, 2008

I've a new hobby now. One that I almost started before when I was in grade 6 but didn't pursue. I've bought a Marui MP5k before when gas type airsoft was the latest model in the early 1990s.

Since my dad is a retired military officer I've always been around soldiers ever since I was young. In my childhood days I would usually stop by after school at my fathers office in the AFP LOGCOM (Logistics Command) where he was then Vice Commander. I would usually look at soldiers walking around and carrying M16s or seeing the Haring Digma (the Philippines urban armored vehicle) pass along the streets of Camp Aguinaldo. My father also taught us how to handle a pistol at an early age and would practice at the shooting range near his office during summer. It's no wonder that I had an affinity for airsoft guns and wargames (not mentioning FPS games like Counterstrike).

Having heard from my friend that there are cheap airsoft being sold nowadays I've began researching the net and the forums and found out that China have made perfect replicas of the brand Tokyo Marui but at one third of their price. This models are very durable and have higher FPS (Feet per second) than TM models since Japan has a very low restriction limit on FPS. You can buy chinese made airsoft guns and you won't even have to upgrade it for a couple of months. A perfect buy for someone just starting out on this hobby.

I've bought a Jing Gong brand M4A1 Carbine which is the U.S. standard rifle for their soldiers. My friend said that I should buy another model since most of the airsoft community uses the M4A1. The only problem is I really like the M4A1 for it's aesthetics not to mention the amount of configurations you can change it into. I quickly chose the SOCOM (Special Operations Command) look since I like the idea of sneaking around and flanking my targets. I've added a front vertical grip, a flashlight, an ANPEQ replica (a device used for infra red laser for night battles) which is actually a battery case for my gun, a rail riser and a Trigicon ACOG scope.

I'm planning soon to change my buttstock into a crane stock to place my battery out of harms way since the wires are dangerously exposed and I don't know what will happen if a bb pellet slams into it.

Next on the list are my clothes and gear. I've purchased the MARPAT BDU(Marine Pattern Battle Dress Uniform) because it suits the jungle comouflage look here in the Philippines. I've seen other people use the desert storm BDU which would make them sittings ducks in our terrain but, hey, to each his own. More targets to see haha! I've also bought an OD (Olive Drab) vest that can carry four magazines for easy access during a fire fight, an elbow and knee pad set, half fingered gloves and shemaq; the scarf that most terrorists wear around their heads since I need some minor protection for my neck and ears. I rummaged my room for my old ROTC boots and my uniforms complete!

Having almost completed my collection (I still need a mask but I'm still searching for the right one) I have yet to participate in a skirmish. I still haven't registerd my gun in Camp Crame and it's liable to be confiscated without a permit to transport. I've already asked around for the nearest game sites near my home. One site is Camp Masada which is a 20 minute ride from my house. It's a 5 hectare jugle site in Muntalban. Another is my old elementary school OLGM which has been abandoned a few years back. They've turned it into a CQB (Close Quarters Battle) airsoft site every wednesday, saturday and sunday night. A sad ending for my old alma mater.

As a newbie in airsoft, I've asked around shops and gunsmiths alike for some sound advice. The first thing they always suggest is safety especially the right headgear. That's why I haven't bought one yet since I'm still researching until now the most durable and practical headgear in the market since my eyes are more priceless to me in exchange for a cheap set of goggles.

Hopefully by december I'll be playing my first game. Let's see what happens then.
